This picture is the epitome of support, strength and love. I thank Barack and Michelle for showing the world the beauty of black love and the black family. Images we do not often see, so I thank them for being young, intelligent, successful and their ability to transcend race with their love. YES WE CAN SI SE PUEDE!
I love to big up people doing big things in our local communities and spreading knowledge to our people. Common is always pushing the envelope of awareness and integrating our communities with a sense of pride. If you are not familiar, I suggest you get familiar with his non profit Common Ground Foundation. There are several programs that this organization uses to empower our youth, I want to thank Common and the other artists who recognize that we need organizations like this to build our communities together!
The Common Ground Foundation is dedicated to the empowerment and development of urban youth in the United States.
The Common Ground Foundation was created by Hip Hop artist, actor and children’s author Lonnie Rashid Lynn, known as “Common”. Common’s social-conscience message serves as inspiration for equality, opportunity and hope among youth in underserved communities. The Foundation is committed to empowering youth in urban neighborhoods and providing life skills needed to achieve their dreams.

Friends and Family,
First and foremost I would like to thank God and everyone who goes to the blog, your efforts to make this endeavor a success are greatly appreciated. Because of you “Notes of This Native Son” has been noticed by a NY PR firm, who also started an internet PR firm two years ago. I was a PR major and the thought never crossed my mind, kudos to them.
Anyhow, they recently set up an interview with me about the site and published it in their weekly newsletter. Just figured I would share the good news and thank the people who I know support the site, for without you there is no site. Peace and Love!

Congratulations to Logan and Ryan Dawson; two young brothers who have graduated high school, escaped the trappings of the stereotypes of young black males, all the while earning a record number amount of scholarships from America’s top Universities.
And the young men give all of the credit to their mother, their original Queen who instilled a strong work ethic and sense of determination into the two twins. Penn State, Univ. of Chicago, Cornell and University of Georgia are just some of the schools that these two talented young men have been accepted into for the fall.
I am thankful for young brothers like these but because they defeated the odds that are some times so heavily stacked against minority men. Secondly I truly wish to commend their mother who raised these two young men as a single parent. Her tireless effort is paying off in the millions right now for these two young men. We often discuss when their are negative issues to report, today let’s celebrate our triumphs!
