PIGS not Guilty in the murder of Sean Bell

sean bell

This is sick! I am reminded of Amadou Diallo right now and Brother Abner Louima who were both brutalized by the NYPD. Brother Diallo did not get to keep his life, Mr. Louima received significant amounts of money in a civil case to settle his grief however money does not take away the pain of being a second class citizen.

My prayers go out to the Bell family and I pray all of our lofty businessmen and entertainers will set aside monies to make sure Sean Bell’s children can afford a college education. It is this type of injustice that polarizes people of color and makes us not feel “AMERICAN”. When a man is killed in cold blood because “he fit the description” how can we not get angry? My stomach turns at the thought of those PIGS as Fred Hampton would have called them. Black cops at that, many of us young black men know that we would rather deal with white cops than black ones. There seems to be an excessive need to control when the officer is black and the harassment turns so ugly when it comes from someone who used to fit the description just like you. I will be fair in this assessment and not call all cops or all black cops for that matter horrible. However, here is my message to the police, NYPD and the other police forces of this nation, you are judged by your weakest link and the brutal murders and corrupt policing efforts that the NYPD and some of you use needs to come to an end!

How many mothers have to bury their sons, how many men have to be harassed and brutally beaten before you change your racist measures. We will not riot and destroy our neighborhoods; no we are smarter than that! We will find justice though, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!

R.I.P. Sean Bell

I have spent the last 6 months in Law School learning about how American society defines the term JUSTICE!!. The police officers involved in the John Bell Shooting, all of whom are suppose to uphold justice, killed an unarmed man with no level of probable cause. Is this just? According to the judge in this trial.. YES!!. WHAT THE FUCK? If the men who murdered this young black men where not police officers, they would be in prison. Aparently the rules of the law do not apply to the long arm of the law. To ad insult to injury two of the police officers were black. Again I ask.. WHAT THE FUCK? Aren’t you public enemy number 1 when your not in your blue uniform? Shit aren’t you public enemy number 1 in your uniform? Don’t you understand what it means to be a black man in america? Crabs in a Barrel. Its all about me getting my promotion, or making a good impression on my white peers. It doesn’t matter how many niggers I have to shoot, kill, disenfranchise, hurt, murder, step on….. JUST ANOTHER NIGGER out the door and now I have my chance to move up. This mentality has got to stop. BLACK PEOPLE WAKE UP. We have become the means to our own destruction…..

We been covering Sean Bell’s case over at Highbrid Nation from the start and when I read today that the police officers were aquitted I was in serious disbelief. An unarmed man was shot 50 times and the people who did it are not responsible at all!? That’s crazy.

  3. nativenotes Says:

My brother today the courts told us once again that being black and male in america does not mean anything. What it means is that we can kill ourselves and if caught serve as slaves in today’s industrial slave quarters better known as prisons. We can be killed by those who are supposed to serve and protect us and the courts will aquit them. There’s no Justice it’s JUST US,; now what are we going to do!

  4. Nubianus Says:

I’m reposting this here because, despite the anger we all justifiably have due to the injustice of the Sean Bell case, we need to harness this anger toward productive uses.

If things are ever going to improve for African-Americans, we have to redouble our efforts to gain social, political and economic power here.

Remember, time and demographics are both on our side. Whites now have a birth rate well below replacement in the USA, while the African-American population grows steadily both by natural growth and immigration from Africa, Brazil and the Caribbean. Even some Blacks immigrating to the USA from France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Spain. (BTW if any of you can speak Spanish and/or Portuguese, please encourage our Black brethren in Latin America, especially from Brazil, to emigrate to the USA. There’s strength in numbers.)

I know Blacks and Latinos have often been at loggerheads, but we’re natural allies– both fighting against White oppression, with Latinos having been invaded in multiple wars by the Anglos in Florida, the Mexican-American War and Spanish-American War. Latinos lost half of Mexico when Anglos invaded in 1848, and were ethnically cleansed by Anglos so that they could start slavery in the conquered territories. Blacks and Latinos today are natural partners in the fight for social justice, both fighting for affirmative action and against discrimination. Spanish is an easy language to learn, and the more that we reach out to each other, speak some Spanish ourselves, and support our Latino brothers and sisters, the more our alliance is cemented.

I’d say if anything, the key for us is to gain political power, and to do that, it’s best to concentrate ourselves geographically a bit more in a few states, where we will soon be the majority. On the one hand, we need Blacks throughout the country to demand our rights, but on the other, a better geographical focus is the key to political power, as it is throughout the world’s democratic countries.

IOW, we need to have our own “North American Nubia” where we have a demographic majority and political power. Some Deep South States are obvious candidates– Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana for example, all of which will soon be Black-majority within perhaps a decade. This would be a core of our nation.

But we can have a second North American Nubia (or North American Africana, whichever name you prefer) in the Upper Midwest– Michigan is one of the Blackest states in the Union.

Some of my homies from college have even urged conversion to Islam for African-Americans. It’s not something I’ve considered myself, though I’ll acknowledge that at least for many urban African-Americans, they’ve done quite well after the conversion. Many having been in jail or kept out of jail, they become more focused and disciplined, as fathers they take care of their Black children and care better for Black women, stay away from drugs and violence and so forth. (interesting link here– Nubian Manifesto http://tinyurl.com/4u9jd5 )

Again, not something that I personally or most of my homies are doing yet but IMHO there are many different personal routes we can take for empowerment, but as a group, we must stay strong and focused and, again, have enough of a geographic concentration that we can gain political power. Just as we should ally with Latinos as they become the majority in their own homelands in Southwestern states and Florida, so should Blacks ally with Muslims in Michigan (who will soon be the majority in that state).

It’s obvious from our people’s history here, that we’ll survive only by standing up for ourselves. Political and economic empowerment are the central aspects of this.

thank you for your words and thought provoking post

  6. sethandray Says:

This is crazy man. We need a judicial revolution.

  7. Winston Giles Says:

Let’s see, Mr. Bell and his two associates, with 15 prior arrests between them, out at 4:00AM at a strip club on Mr. Bell’s wedding day. Oh, while his fiance and their two children are at home. Ever hear of responsibility? He put himself in that situation, the police were justified based on the evidence. Do you think there would have been shots fired if the three “victims” would have adhered to the Police’s instructions? No.
Blacks don’t need a judicial revolution like the previuos poster states, they need a cultural revolution. And as another gentleman posted, good luck with that “North American Nubia” idea, it’s working great in Detroit. Just as it is working in Zimbabwe.

  8. nativenotes Says:

Giles oh Mr. Giles, your rationale is frowned upon even by dictators like Sadaam Hussein. You must not be very familiar with the legal system so I will enlighten you. You spoke of evidence; the fact that some of these men had priors, and that they were leaving a strip club (legal entertainment might i add) is enough evidence to justify 50 shots being fired into a vehicle.

I’m guessing you’re not familiar with “JUSTIFIABLE FORCE”, you can not shoot a man when he does not have a gun and you are not in fear of your life. There were no guns in the car, the cops did not properly identify themselves so why would sean bell follow their instructions when they already had their guns drawn. In an impoverished neighborhood when the guns come out; you need to find safety as soon as possible.

Responsibility you speak of, i think the man was entitled to a night out with his friends and not be slaughtered by those who are to serve and protect him. You said if they were regular citizens adhering to police instructions this would not have happened. Need I remind you of amadou diallo and tons of other black men who have been brutalized by the NYPD.

We need a cultural revolution I am interested to what this would entail. Narrow mindedness will get you nowhere; its interesting your lack of legal know how and ability to understand the system does not suprise me, you are actually more reflective of the criminal justice system than you should be.

  9. Winston Giles Says:

The same judicial system that aquitted theses three police officers, is the same one that aquitted Orenthal Simpson.

  10. nativenotes Says:

so does that make it right my friend. no that does not make it right an injustice is an injustice. we have to begin to see ourselves in more than black and white. until the law bastardizes your family you will not know. I do not have to sit in a gas chamber to understand that what the nazi’s did was wrong.

If u feel OJ was guilty then you have a right to call that system crooked and rise up against it but please do not make someones life expendable because of faulty reasoning. That’s just not intelligent!

  11. Winston Giles Says:

Sir, the only reason I posted on this blog was due to the headline “PIGS not guilty.” Am I sad to see someone gunned down?, of course. Even though two of the officers are black, it becomes a racial thing. What is with this race baiting? Why was Al Sharpton involved? Look, I’m just a citizen of this country, just like you. It is mind blowing to read and see some of the things that go on in the black community. As a white guy, let me speak for what I think is the majority of how whites feel in this country.

I, nor my parents had or have slaves, so put that to rest. Yes, your ancestors were abused, done by a great mistreatment, but so were the Jews, Irish, et al.

As long as blacks look to leaders like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, they will fulfill a self fulfiling prophecy of second class citizens. What good do these two do for the black community. As long as people like them are a voice of black America, you will take one step forward, and 2 steps back. But then again, that’s what they want, true equality would put them out of a job. Every great movement, becomes a business, then a con.

Whites could care less if blacks are sucessful. Whites don’t want to see blacks fail. But, many whites are resentful of programs like Affirmative Action. I live in Atlanta, and when Vick was sentenced, sure alot of red necks thought that was great, and alot of blacks thought he was done in because he is black. Neither is right.

There are three simple rules to become sucessful in America. Stay in school, don’t have a child out of wedlock, and get a job. That’s it in a nutshell. Whites can do it, so can blacks. The Nubian North, i.e Detroit has the worst drop out rate in America, one of the highest crime rates, and a city in shambles. Now why is that? Surely we can blame the whites, we get blamed for most of the social injustcies. Well, I guess you can blame the whites since 80% of them left Detroit in the white flight of the eighties. So a black mayor was elected, staffed the city with black “friends” ripped off his own taxpayers, ran the city into ruin, and gets reelected!? Now faces criminal charges, and blacks are defending him? Why, because he is another brother held down by the Man? The same guy that publically had a ceromony and buried the N word, never to be uttered again, except a month later in a press conference when he complained that he was being unjustly prosecuted, and had been called Nigger? Is this the best the black citizens can do, elect people like this?

Finally, I think the key word the white community thinks of during ordeals like this is hypocrasy. Whites caused Katrina, they blew the dams to get rid of the blacks. The government didn’t care about the blacks. And what happened. The majority of whites evacuated, as was manditory, why didn’t the blacks that stayed? Did they think because the government, our tax money, had priovided them since birth with housing, medical care, and welfare, then the government would step right in and take care of them? No, they didn’t and couldn’t, so let’s just loot, rape, and murder. The mayor of New Orleans, a black, completely droped the ball, as did the white governor, yet one gets bounced out of office and one gets reelected. I just don’t get it.

  12. nativenotes Says:

I have no problem engaging you sir, I do however have problems with the inherent white privilege tone that can come across as ignorance. I will not say racist but i will say that some of your statements come from someone who sounds uninformed. There is so much to address in your piece and I will gladly address all of your concerns.

Your response is embedded with a common flaw amongst whites who are privileged however want to deny their privilege or act like it does not exist. Now did you read my post or someone’s comment because in my post i spoke nothing of race baiting, nor did I try to invoke a racial tone. But since you bring up racism, I hope that you understand that racism comes in more forms than calling someone a nigger. Institutionalized racism is the name of the game today; it comes in the forms of redlining, blacks being targeted for loans for homes with higher percentage points based on the color of their skin and not their credit report. The public education system in Philadelphia receives a gross amount of money that is mishandled and serves to further mis-educate the black students who populate their schools.

You are right your parents did not have slaves nor own them; its very possible your ancestors did however. But that is not the case, you and your family benefited from the slave trade. Trust me, you did and you do. By enslaving blacks and treating them as second class citizens whites were afforded better paying jobs, lived in nicer areas and because of those better paying jobs and those nicer areas they had a better life to give to their children. Now we can lie to ourselves and act like it is not a privilege to be white here in America but that would be asenine to say the least. Are you harassed by police officers, are you accused (as you just did) of your success being caused by affirmative action.

Are you even familiar with affirmative action. The minority group who benefits most from affirmative action is white women. Yes your mother and sister benefit from affirmative action much faster than i do as a young black man. Your response was filled with racial prejudices and it is not your fault because you have been socialized to believe that we blacks see ourselves as the victims and blame the white people of this country. Missing that the man in my opinion is not the white man. The government, which i can tell you are not very familiar with how it functions has been on record with maintaining policies and practices that are a detriment to people of color. Once more this is institutionalized racism that you are unaware of.

Whites could care less if blacks are successful; some whites I’m sure. But let’s not forget how angry some whites get when they see any minority class doing better than them. They become extremely upset because this country was established by them and for them so what are these people doing coming in making more money and becoming more educated than me.

So all people have to do is stay in school, do not have a child out of wedlock and get a job. Hmmm once again you show how uninformed you are. so stay in school, ok lets do that, stay in school, hell go to law school. Have no children and when you graduate with $150,000 in debt and a failing economy you will be happy to find out that there are no jobs available for you. But even your don’t have a baby out of wedlock speaks from a bias that you believe that all black people are good for is child rearing and being lazy and not keeping a job or becoming educated. You must be a fan of Reganomics because you sound like Regan himself.

Detroit has problems, we both know that. I bet you’re not familiar with Detroit’s previous mayor and all of the nonsense that went on there with large white corporate business men. No you wouldn’t dare do research. Listen fella, truth is this this is not a black or white thing and if you could have seen that prior to your offensive response we could be talking about how to remove this particular judge from their seat for making erroneous decisions. We could be engaging each other on solutions rather than redressing problems.

You see until you understand the system you are a slave to the system. And white people with all your privilege are becoming swallowed up as well. Just ask NAFTA. You see the name of the game is now economics and if you’re white but you’re not making the powers that be a good return profit you are expendable too. See its global now fella, China and India are on the rise and we are slipping. The euro is busting the dollar’s butt so I suggest that you become informed and make good decisions before you find yourself just as much of an outcast, an economic outcast.

Oh and your observations about Katrina were exactly what I would expect from someone who is uninformed. You keep thinking that it is about whites and black; whites died there too, poor ones. Did the mayor drop the bomb or did FEMA drop the bomb. Did the black people just choose to stay there or did their finances not allow them to leave.

And lastly don’t ever assume that all blacks have to look to public assistance programs that whites actually benefit from more; it insults your own intelligence.

  13. Winston Giles Says:

Very good points. But I think we both are straying off the gist of the dialogue. Good thing we are doing this on line, if we were in a bar together yapping about Race, we may never get home. Enjoyed the conversation, will check back tomorrow, got to go to a Klan ralley(Not really, that’s a joke, but I will tell you about how the KKK had an office in my hometown, right on mainstreet. Now it is a bike shop, this was in 1966!) And we will also talk about my buddy Hosea Willliams, we were friends, took that brick in the mouth in Forsyth County. And I have to tell you about some other things. Some bad things. And some good things.

  14. Pinks Says:

Darnit! I want to jump in..but I feel like I should sit back and let y’all do your thing

  15. Carl Chisolm Says:

Fuck words today. Its still fuck the police.
